News last week that Children’s Secretary Ed Balls blew Pounds 72million on outside consultants to work for the Department for Children, Schools and Families drew gasps from critics, who said he could have invested the tidy sum on 10 new secondary schools. In fact, Mr Balls could have spent the money on all sorts of things, and The TES Magazine has some suggestions: just over a third of Milan striker Kaka; Roman Abramovich’s 335-footer yacht, Pelorus (pictured); 500 Bentleys customised in hot pink, as recently purchased by Paris Hilton; 3,320 nights in Hugh Hefner’s Sky Villa Palms Resort hotel, one of the most expensive in the world, complete with rotating bed; 160,000 18 carat white gold-plated iPod Nanos.
