A group of pupils have taken a novel approach to ensuring they have their five a day - instead of eating their vegetables, they have played them.

They created butternut bongos, carrot recorders and aubergine castanets, before performing them in a culinary concert at the Vale of Ancholme Technology and Music College in Brigg, North Lancashire.

The project was organised by Scrumptious Sounds, a healthy eating music project run by Music4U. “As well as working with the kids on the music, we explored things like the eat well plate, which teaches them what a healthy, balanced plate should look like,” said Carol Dawson, a musician with Scrumptious Sounds.
