Digging deep on privilege and access

Some 20 years ago, as principal of a Devon community college, I was driving an injured rugby player home from a match against a prestigious private school. “We ran them close, then?”, I commented.

“Yes, but remember their mums and dads don’t shell out more than Pounds 20,000 a year to be beaten by the kids from the comprehensive,” he said.

Neither Milburn’s recent report nor the deliberations of the Charity Commissioners have addressed this simple and fundamental point. Perhaps they should try to come up with a shared response?
