‘Digital natives’ point missed

The view that “pupils have been wasting hours learning to use office applications that as digital natives they would have picked up anyway” is unfair and inaccurate (TESS, 9 March).

By all means, let us hand on an awareness of all that is possible with computers, but let’s not lose sight of the skills that will make them most valuable to employers at a time when they face more competition than for a generation.
