Dinner ladies to promote health

Dinner ladies will be taught how to market healthy foods to children as part of the first qualification for school catering.

The foundation-level NVQ will prepare caterers to meet next year’s stricter healthy eating guidelines as well as training staff to invent new titles for dishes to make them sound more appealing.

But local authority caterers said they were already good at marketing - using loyalty cards to promote healthy choices and even cutting up fruit for lazy children.
