ITALY A pupils’ charter signed by the education minister has outlawed traditional forms of discipline in the scuola superiore. Teachers will no longer be able to send disruptive children out of the room, and punitive suspensions will also become a thing of the past. Only expulsion will remain. Teachers will continue to give end-of-term marks for behaviour, but this will cease to be linked to subject results, so that no one will have to repeat the year for bad behaviour.
