Tearfund provides opportunities for the world’s poorest communities and WaterAid helps these people gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education. Together, they have produced an online game about gaining aid for water and sanitation from the EU. In it, players use their mouse to move a pot around to catch EU funding. The first level shows how, following broken promises from the EU, aid has been in short supply and slow to reach those who need it. The next level shows how a large amount is given, but a lack of communication between donor countries means poorer countries don’t receive a steady flow of aid. Level three shows aid reaches wealthier countries before poorer ones have a chance to receive it. At the end, players are asked to write to the Secretary of State for International Development asking him to use his influence to allocate more and better aid for water and sanitation.
