OF course teachers must be responsible, but Libby Purves has got it wrong - teachers don’t have to be adults 24 hours a day.
In the normal course of my work I would expect to put on silly voices, make extraordinary faces or noises and have a go at the latest craze, be it yo-yoing, skipping or cats-cradling. Teaching brings out the child in us all - it’s a sad (and boring) teacher who can’t, or won’t, sometimes be one!
