Disabled actress and former City and Islington student Lisa Hammond was singing the college’s praises during Ruth Kelly’s visit on Tuesday.
Both were VIP guests at the college as the Education Secretary toured its new pound;15m building.
Ms Kelly made a fine job of keeping her chin up after the little hitch over child protection in schools but, from Ms Hammond’s point of view, the day could have gone a little more smoothly.
The swish building may need some minor modifications before it complies with the Disability Discrimination Act.
The former Grange Hill star, at 4ft 1in, had to use voice-projection skills because the lectern which held the microphone was taller than she was.
Not only that, but the spotlight couldn’t be adjusted downwards. While her audience may have found her speech enlightening, she was kept in the dark.
