Aberdeenshire is attempting to reach agreement with Unison over the refusal of some clerical assistants to operate the video access control system because they regard it as an extra duty.
The union wants the clerical posts regraded from the current scale of Pounds 10,781-Pounds 11,313 to Pounds 12,000-Pounds 12,079. It says staff already have to act as secretaries, administrators and receptionists and collect dinner money. They are also the first point of contact with the public.
Aberdeen meanwhile was due to conclude discussions this week with teaching and support staff after three months of negotiation. The council has drawn up a “protocol” on the operation of security equipment and has conceded the unions’ case that additional work is involved by regrading some support posts.
North Lanarkshire had told schools that office staff are expected to carry out reception duties and that the security measures make their job safer.
