The recent attacks on “moral relativism” and “cultural relativism” by the Government’s chief curriculum adviser show only that he needs to learn some lessons about the country he keeps lecturing. This has never been, is not now; and never will be a unified society. The only things that unite us are our hard-won willingness to accept the things that divide us - not only moral and cultural, but also racial, national, regional, social, economic, political, religious, intellectual, educational - and the language we use to discuss these divisions. Educator, educate yourself.
