YOU were correct to say that Ian Chesterton (Fantasy Teachers, TES, February 15) was curious about pupil Susan Foreman, whom he discovered to reside with her grandfather, one Doctor Who, in a police telephone box.

As well as the sexist omission of the heroic Barbara Wright - history mistress and Ian’s companion - you did not say their concern was based on Susan’s homework being so bad.

The reason for her low attainment and motivation was simple: she was from another planet. This explanation rings true to many classroom practitioners.
