VISITORS to Birmingham and the Education Show this week could be forgiven for thinking it seems a little quieter than in years gone by. There’s a good reason: it no longer clashes with Crufts.

This is clearly a weight off the minds for organisers, who were quick to point out the happy news in their early publicity. Hardly surprisig. It has, they tell the Diary, caused “huge problems” in the past.

Teachers have been forced to share not only the car parks but even the hotels with pets and their owners.

“We used to hear them barking on the 10th floor of the Metropole,” a spokeswoman says. Would that be the dogs, the owners ... or the teachers?
