Teachers sometimes encounter pupils with passionate views on protecting the environment but with little idea how to put their principles into practice.

Welsh teachers have developed SCAN, an educational network that encourages them to make ecological decisions that influence the real world. SCAN’s project Don’t Stamp out the Earth provides a series of workshops in which children measure their personal impact on the environment and understand the importance of recycling. They will then produce a working waste reduction strategy especially for their schools based on the three Rs formula - “Reuse, Reduce, Recycle”. The SCAN workshops, for Years 4-7, are available at The National Museum and Gallery, Cardiff, Tuesdays to Fridays during school term.
