Doors to open at 55 free schools

Fifty-five new free schools are opening this autumn, tripling the number in England, ministers said this week. Westminster education secretary Michael Gove said he hoped they would be as successful as the 24 existing ones. Free schools are state-funded but not under local authority control and have more control over teaching and budgets.
