Education minister Baroness Blackstone was today expected to announce a scholarship scheme for drama and dance students.
The scheme, to be funded centrally by the Government, spells the end of discretionary awards for drama and dance, which often left students at the mercy of their education authority. The mainly private dance and drama schools have long called for funding parity with universities and music conservatoires.
The further and higher education funding councils may be involved in the administration of awards, but details are still being discussed.
