A hard-hitting anti-smoking campaign featuring people suffering from cancer and lung disease was launched this week by ministers in an attempt to reduce the number of young smokers. The new advertisements come as fresh research reveals that almost two-thirds of school pupils who smoke believe they are no more likely to get lung cancer than non-smokers of their own age.
The Pounds 2.5 million advertising campaign will run from Boxing Day until the end of March. Latest figures from the Health Education Authority show that 35 per cent of men and 29 per cent of women aged 16-24 are regular smokers.
