Even the most careful and experienced driver can be challenged or distracted by the presence of 15 excited children. Minibus Driving is a sensible and thorough 40-page booklet that costs pound;2 and is available from the Institute of Advanced Motorists. It recognises that particular skills are needed and that these are often not dealt with during training.

The booklet shows readers how to keep out of other drivers’ blind spots, how to maintain appropriate “safety gaps”, and how to behave on motorways.

There is also advice about legal requirements concerning loads and internal obstructions.
