Drop emotive ‘charitable’ label

The word “charity” should be dropped from all talk of private education as it provokes an “emotive” response from opponents who do not see schools doing enough to support the poor, argued Nicholas Allen, chair of the Independent Association of Prep Schools. Instead, the schools should describe themselves as “not-for-profit” organisations, he argued.
