SPENDING on school books in English primaries has dropped, a survey by the Educational Publishers Association reveals. The survey of 1,451 schools found that spending has risen in Wales and Northern Ireland and remained stable in Scotland. But annual spending on books by English primaries last year fell to pound;17.69 per pupil, down from a high of pound;21.84 in 1998, when the National Literacy Strategy was introduced.
