A SPECIAL assembly was held at Dunblane primary school on Tuesday to mark the fifth anniversary of the massacre in which 16 children and their teacher were shot dead.

Headteacher Joy Macfarlane moved the weekly school gathering from Monday to Tuesday to coincie with the anniversary, but instead of mentioning the atrocity specifically, she spoke on the subject of spring.

She said: “Every year we try to take references to the tragedy down a notch or two as the children involved move up through the school.”
