THANK you for your interesting article and Fact File on the life and achievements, to date, of a Dr Nick Tate who is off to become headteacher at some public school (TES, October 15).

Is Nicholas Tate, the new head of Winchester, the same remarkable man who declared several years ago that the rot set in for young people with “the arrival of Dusty Springfield and flared trousers in the 1960s”?

Of course poor Dusty is dead and gone - but what have his prospective students done to deserve this!
