* If you are in the market for a new DVD writer, bear in mind two developments. The first is that faster drives running at 16x speed are on their way and expected to arrive this summer. The other is the arrival of dual-layer (DL) discs and drives. DL technology is currently only available for DVD+R discs. These are write-once discs that use two recording layers on the same side to double storage capacity from 4.7Gb to 8.5Gb. This is sufficient for four hours of DVD-quality video or 16 hours of VHS video.
