Finding a cosy place to chill and chat can be challenging, especially if you live in Scotland and your friends are in Malawi. At the GoldStar Cafe, secondary school pupils create, collaborate and communicate online.

Using professionally mediated online communities from Intuitive Media, children here can now communicate with friends in Africa and Asia through email, instant messaging and online forums. They will also learn about health, the environment and poverty in the developing world.

That is a bit heavy if you are still only 4, so Intuitive Media is launching a protected online place especially for wee ones. At the Pepper Poppy Club 4-to 6-year-olds can take their first steps in online forums, emails and building webpages.
