Depute heads don’t believe in letting their guests off lightly. Their conference in Battleby last week (page four) introduced Clackmannan’s director of education thus: “Keir Bloomer qualified as a teacher in 1969. He taught - regularly at first - in Glenwood Secondary School, Castlemilk, Glasgow. From 1973 he became increasingly involved in the affairs of the EIS and increasingly expert in ‘please takes’ on his decreasingly frequent visits to the school. ”

As supremo of three secondaries in Clackmannanshire, Bloomer is probably a much more frequent visitor to schools as a director than he was as a teacher in Glasgow, as the deputes might say.
