Discussions about Chris Woodhead miss the vital point, which is that the role of her Majesty’s Chief Inspector has been made non-credible by this role-holder.

He is not listened to with the weight that the role should attract. That is sufficient grounds to consider removing him from the role.

In this light, David Blunkett’s defence of retaining him sounds like the sort of conviction politics for which Lady Thatcher was noted, and which is difficult to distinguish from authoritarianism.
