East v west

Walter Humes, professor of education at Aberdeen University, although very much a native Glaswegian, couldn't resist the odd gibe at the expense of the Scottish Executive during the TESS seminar. Well, it's his favourite pastime.

It was interesting to note, he said, that an official was there from the new educational developments division, or NED for short. "As someone who comes from Glasgow, it's good to know there are neds in the east," he remarked.

And, he demanded to know, why does the Executive just love adjectives, as in the Ambitious, Excellent Schools blueprint and its section on "tougher, intelligent accountabilities"?

Outstanding, insightful and worthy point, Walter.
