It would appear to be one rule for academies and another for everyone else (“Academy ordered to improve”, TES, February 24).

At the school where I am a parent-governor, Ofsted said standards in maths and science were “exceptionally low” as it did at Peckham academy - but decided the only course of action was to put us in special measures.

This, even though problems in both areas were documented in the self-evaluation form alongside improvement plans being implemented. These included a rebuilt maths department which inspectors acknowledged had “some cracking good teaching”.

But, under the new framework, the “only option’” was special measures. We’d have given our eye-teeth for the “satisfactory” Peckham academy got.

Nothing political there, though, I’m sure!
