In the article about Michael Gove’s unfortunate choice of subjects to include in and exclude from the English Baccalaureate (”‘Resist, ignore, reject’: rebel heads in call to arms on EBac”, 11 February), a Department for Education spokesman is quoted as saying: “It is ultimately up to heads to decide which subjects they offer.”

This is worryingly inaccurate. Ultimate responsibility for the curriculum rests with governors. It is surely time that politicians and civil servants understood and acknowledged the role and responsibility of governors.
