Viewforth Nursery in Fife has won a pound;15,000 renovation of its building, which will give it loft and wall insulation and solar panels to help save energy.

The “Project: Renovate” competition was launched last year by Knauf Insulation, with Bob the Builder leading the campaign, to offer children the chance to improve their learning environment, while teaching them the importance of energy efficiency. Viewforth submitted its traditional design drawings to demonstrate why its annual energy consumption was so high.

“It ticked a lot of boxes for us, including the Eco-schools programme we’re involved in and A Curriculum for Excellence,” said headteacher Angela Welsh.

“The activities have encouraged children to develop confidence and take responsibility for helping reduce, reuse and recycle both in the nursery and at home. Bob the Builder captured the children’s imagination and added a fun element to the activities. It’s down to the hard work of the children, staff and parents that we’ve won this award.”
