TES plundered Twitter for haikus from teachers on #WorldPoetryDay. As a bonus incentive, we gave teachers the chance to win one of our stunning mugs. A mass haiku landslide followed.
Summing up the relationship between literacy and numeracy was @inFinnityPi, who wrote: “I can count to fiveAnd I can count to sevenMaths or poetry?”
@LRGSChemistry’s tweet, meanwhile, cunningly condensed their subject into 17 syllables: “Chemistry laid bareDmitri MendeleevPeriodic chart.”
Many tweets centred on the virtues of being a teacher. @MrAkashTrivedi, a science teacher from Leicester, tweeted: “If there is one thingCutting inequalityIt’s education.” On the other side of the experience spectrum was @miss_trainee, a first-year English teacher, who said: “Always believingNever giving up on themEncouraging growth.”
@dukkhaboy, a geography teacher reeling from a recent inspection, wasn’t feeling quite as invigorated. “Had Ofsted this weekToday I wed my sofaHorizontal bliss”, he wrote.
But who won the chance to sip their morning coffee out of a brand new mug? The prize goes to the joker of the pack, @AnneTaylor100, who tweeted: “Discipline problems?Should have gone to SpecsaversFor pupil control.”
