“Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love you tomorrow, you’re only a day away,” sang the adorable orphan Annie in the musical that bears her name. But what does tomorrow hold? A recent #edchat invited teachers to look into their crystal balls and predict how the next few years would look for schools, based on the changes happening now.
@pupiltree quoted US philosopher John Dewey to explain why it’s necessary to think about the future: “If we teach today’s students as we taught yesterday’s, we rob them of tomorrow.”
In Pennsylvania in the US, @Steph_Brewer was looking forward to what the Common Core State Standards could do for her class: “I think the #CCSS will bring about so many positive changes. I am so excited for it! Our students deserve it.”
Technology is also likely to play a large role in the classes of the future, according to @Herminator_Math: “Our district is trying to change the way we teach, using more inquiry and technology.” But, he added, “We are still handicapped a bit by standardised tests.”
And, with an optimism worthy of little orphan Annie, @ShiftParadigm tweeted: “Can’t predict future unless we dream.let’s dream big! An education system that works well for all students, teachers, parents, administrators, all the time.” Sarah Cunnane
