The EDEXCEL foundation has turned a Pounds 1.8 million debt into a Pounds 2.6m surplus in its first year of trading.

The exam board, created out of the merger of BTEC and London Examinations, almost doubled its reserves, putting aside Pounds 13.8m, compared to last year’s Pounds 7.7 m.

EDEXCEL offers 70 per cent of general national vocational qualifications, 16 per cent of GCSEs and 16 per cent of A-levels.
