Editing flaw

Your editing of the letter from four members of the working group on the secondary science initial teacher training national curriculum (TES, February 6) gives the incorrect impression that we think that an A-level pass in physics, chemistry or biology is adequate preparation for a postgraduate certificate in education course which aims to train teachers to teach the subject at key stage 4. Indeed, our letter argued the opposite of this.

I find it hard to see how anyone could claim that standards of science teaching will be improved by attempting to train KS4 teachers to teach a subject in nine months on the basis of an A-level pass awarded several years previously at grade D or E.
