How does a pigeon find its way home? Despite a century of research, during which these winged messengers and battle-honoured heroes of many wars have been dismantled piece by piece in the quest to find out exactly what the homing device is, the mystery remains (page 8).

There’s no place like home, except when you live next door to noisy neighbours. Heath Robinson’s solution would make a quaint introduction to a citizenship discussion on the need to empathise with others (page 17).
