It’s easy to understand why post-war councillors voted to run the trams out of town. Apart from the spartan furnishing designed to minimise the spread of fleas, lice and “other disorders” that rendered this public facility distinctly working class, the ageing rust-buckets were the enemy of the motor car, clogging up the road and progress. But time has proved the car to be the enemy, and the tram is back on track (page 8).
