Complaints about the anti-bigotry pack sponsored by Celtic football club and sent to all Glasgow schools will be raised by the Educational Institute of Scotland at the next meeting of the city’s joint consultative committee.

A group of teachers at Penilee Secondary who contacted The TES Scotland said no attempt had been made to link the campaign to the 5-14 guidelines.

Two Roman Catholic secondaries fear that a campaign started by one side of the “Old Firm” will send the wrong messages.

Willie Hart, secretary of the EIS’s Glasgow association, said: “While we welcome any initiative that challenges sectarian bigotry, we regret that the materials were publicised in the media without teachers being involved first. Headteachers cannot be expected automatically to pick up all that is in the pack without having the chance to see how it relates to what their schools are already doing.”
