One in four children have sent their first email before they have started school, a survey found this week.

And 95 per cent of five-year-olds in homes with internet access have surfed the internet.

A poll of 4,000 parents for the Cartoon Network found one in five 10-year-olds could operate a webcam and only 2 per cent said they could not use a mobile phone.

But many grandparents - aged over 65 - were unable to send emails or use mobile phones.
