* The conference voted in an emergency motion for the abolition of tuition fees and the restoration of grants, backed by Dennis Canavan, the former Labour MP elected as an Independent MSP. There would be cross-party support for the abolition of fees, Mr Canavan said, with the “ironic exception of the Labour Party”.
