Emotional literacy

FOREST OF FEELINGS. By Jo Browning Wroe and Carol Holliday. LDA. Pounds 18.99.

This is an episodic story presented in six instalments interspersed with teachers' notes and suggestions for follow-up activities aimed at developing emotional literacy. Its emphasis is on validating the sorts of feelings often assumed to be bad or negative, giving children a means of appreciating contexts in which anger or fear, for example, are entirely appropriate emotions.

It has a superb five-page introduction that any Senco or PSHE co-ordinator will find helpful when trying to ensure school policies are giving due regard to emotional development.
