FOREST OF FEELINGS. By Jo Browning Wroe and Carol Holliday. LDA. Pounds 18.99.

This is an episodic story presented in six instalments interspersed with teachers’ notes and suggestions for follow-up activities aimed at developing emotional literacy. Its emphasis is on validating the sorts of feelings often assumed to be bad or negative, giving children a means of appreciating contexts in which anger or fear, for example, are entirely appropriate emotions.

It has a superb five-page introduction that any Senco or PSHE co-ordinator will find helpful when trying to ensure school policies are giving due regard to emotional development.
