KS1-2

Pupils list all the things to eat or drink that have given their name to a colour (eg lime). Which colour do they like best? Which foodstuff do they like best? Are these the same? Do colours influence taste?

KS3

Introduce students to Alexander Pope’s “The Rape of the Lock”, reading lines 105-124, and discuss the idea of the mock heroic in this description of coffee-drinking. Compare and contrast this with modern sports writing.

KS4

Read “The Lovesong of J Alfred Prufrock”, and consider how TSEliot uses the coffee spoons, teacups etc to encapsulate - what, exactly? What would it mean if a writer used these images today? Is coffee used in imagery - popular songs, films? Why?
