Mind-map the idea of space travel with students, and ask them to write a poem entitled “Beyond the Stars”.
Discuss in groups the appealing and unappealing aspects of space travel, and write individual pieces, as if applying to go or to be exempted from it.
“Governments waste too much money and scientific knowhow on space exploration, when it should be used for research to benefit people on planet Earth.” Discuss, then write in the styles of broadsheet and tabloid newspapers.
