The world final of the Kids’ Lit Quiz came to Edinburgh independent school Stewart’s Melville College earlier this month when teams from as far away as New Zealand and South Africa battled it out to be crowned champion readers.

The quiz for 11 to 13-year-olds is the brainchild of Wayne Mills, senior lecturer at the University of Auckland, and is based on children’s literature both ancient and modern, including questions on anything from comic book heroes to Greek tragedies.

The four-pupil teams came from Belmont Intermediate School, Auckland; City of London School for Girls; Howells College, Llandaff; The Mary Erskine School, Edinburgh; The Ridge School, Johannesburg; Wellington College, Belfast; and Wheatley Park School, Oxford.

At the end of the day, the City of London School for Girls triumphed, with Mary Erskine School the runners-up.
