* I am surprised that you keep printing letters from people (usually southerners) who want English spelling reform. In the UK, this would force local authorities’ parks departments south of Watford to have new signs saying “Please keep off the grarse”. We in the North could persist with the traditional spelling, happy in the knowledge that it accurately reflected the pronunciation.
