Those who put forward the most innovative initiatives, as judged by children’s author Michael Rosen, will receive pound;1,000 of book vouchers for their school. The closing date is 1 August.The competition is targeted at schools that have a large percentage of children from disadvantaged backgrounds and aims to give them better access to literature.What teachers are sharingSo far, ideas range from the Take a Risk scheme used by librarians at the Ravensbourne School in Bromley - where pupils borrow a mystery book from the library, wrapped in brown paper and string - to the extreme reading competition held by St Richard’s Catholic College in East Sussex, which challenges pupils and teachers to take their reading to exciting places, including the Sydney Opera House and - for one teacher - to the top of Mount Everest.
