Forming links with other schools, in the UK or abroad, is an important way for children to build relationships with a wider range of people than they meet at home. For instance, Link Community Development (see panel, right) connects British schools with ones in Africa.

Many British schools have formed links with others on the Continent through the European Union Comenius Project, which aims to help teachers and pupils to develop a sense of belonging to a broader and outward-looking Europe.

Comenius funds exchanges between schools and teacher-training establishments across Europe. It also promotes the teaching of foreign languages, awareness of different cultures and anti-racist work, as well as projects to improve the education of children of migrant workers and travellers.
