Schools are being urged to get their creative juices flowing and register for the UK’s largest one-day enterprise competition.

The Make Your Mark Challenge asks students aged 14-plus to generate new and innovative business ideas in response to a brief over the course of just one day. This year’s theme is “don’t be a carbon copy”.

The challenge for Scottish schools will be to knock Caldervale High in Airdrie off the top spot. Teams entered by the school, under the leadership of home economics teacher Adele MacKenzie, have won the Scottish leg of the competition for the past two years running.

Last year, schools were challenged to create an entrepreneurial idea inspired by Olympic and Paralympic values.

Caldervale’s team used the values of friendship, determination, respect, courage, excellence, inspiration and equality to inspire a product designed to help teenagers study, with revision notes for all Standard grade subjects delivered in the form of rap music.
