Volunteers in CSV’s annual Whitbread Action Earth campaign are doing their bit to improve their local environment. Some are constructing a greenhouse from plastic drinks bottles. Others, perhaps more conventional but equally useful, are building hedgehog houses, bird tables and nesting boxes, restocking ponds or restoring a limekiln. The campaign runs to the end of April, and schools and youth groups can apply for grants of pound;50 or pound;100 by registering their project. The money can provide seeds, materials or even hot soup for cold volunteers.
