AFGHANISTAN Oxfam has suspended its programme in Kabul, following the takeover by the Taliban, who have ordered working women back into their homes. After being told that its women staff would not be allowed to work, the agency told all of its workers - men and women - to stay at home. The programme included improving water supplies, sanitation and health education.
“All Oxfam’s staff are equal. We want to send the message that women really are just as important as men and our work cannot continue without them, ” said Sue Emmott, Oxfam’s representative in the area.
