Estelle’s got art

The Diary would like to congratulate St Estelle on her return to Government as arts minister, a resurrection we predicted. She was characteristically honest when she admitted this week to being an “amateur” in the arts but said she knew what she liked.

So, what exactly does she like? As Education Secretary, she decorated her office with reproductions of photos on an “education theme” from the Daily Herald archive at the National Museum of Photography in Bradford. Now the minister is making subtle noises about getting them back (to remind her of the good times, presumably).

Not exactly extravagant but more refined than her hirsute successor.

Charles Clarke (more likely to serve as prime minister than arts minister) was last reported exhibiting a pair of bright yellow boxing gloves on his wall.
